Is there any special preparation required for digital mammography?
We recommend you do the following before your mammogram:

  • Please inform us if you are having any symptoms, problems or concerns related to the breast.
  • Try to schedule your mammogram seven to 10 days after the start of your last menstrual cycle. (This can help lessen any discomfort or sensitivity.)
  • If you are pregnant or breast feeding, talk to your physician before coming in for your appointment. It may be best to postpone your mammogram.
  • Be sure to provide a list of where and when you have had other mammograms. If your previous mammogram was performed at a facility outside of the Cape Girardeau area, please bring your previous films with you at the time of your appointment, if readily available. The radiologist will want to compare your previous mammograms with the new one taken at our facility.
  • The day of your mammogram don't use any deodorant, powders or lotions under the arms. These substances can interfere with the images.
  • Patients are asked to wear a two-piece outfit to simplify undressing for your mammogram.
